Biography

Berlese was a professor in phytopathology at the agricultural college in Milan. He and his brother, the zoologist Antonio Berlese, founded the journal Revista di Patologia vegetale in 1892. He helped out with Saccardo's Sylloge Fungorum, and published the two picture books you see below.
Berlese did much work on the tiny parasitic genera (of animals as well as plants), so when I start including those in the website, you will see more citations of species under his name, and probably some pictures from his books, too.

You will see many variants of the nameof his Icones, but this is the only big work of this nature that he published. In contradiction of the title, this work does not cover all fungi, just the little tiny ascomycetes.
