1871 becomes the joint publisher of the journal Hedwigia
1872 studies natural science in Munich
1873 studies natural science in Halle; earns PhD there
1875 docent for botany at the Polytechnic Confederation in Zurich
Winter did studies on
- the mushroom flora of Missouri, Brazil, and Portugal
