Biography
Roger has made a living of going around Great Britain, photographing and identifying everything he can lay his hands on, and publishing the results as a book. His book of the fungi of Great Britain (he's also done similar "photograph everything" books of plants, rocks, and other things) is fairly comprehensive, but he wasn't able to do much more than scratch the surface of the U.S. in the year or so that he spent tooling around the country. Which isn't to say that the book is a failure: a comprehensive fungal flora of the U.S. is probably more than a hundred years away. And the book has more nice photos of fungi, with decent (if somewhat short and dry) descriptions, than almost any other book. It is hard to identify your find, though, without keys.
