Biography

Bondartsev was an expert on polypores and (a Russian specialty) "house fungi"; that is, fungi that actually attack your house, like Serpula lacrimans.

His name is transliterated from the Russian, by the way. In German, one would spell it "Bondarzew" in order for it to be pronounced the same way. So when Singer declared the genus Bondarzewia in 1940, and Donk declared the family Bondarzewiaceae, they spelled it in the German way. One really should pronounce the man's name correctly, even if the word is spelled according to the system of a different language.
