Biography
Stevens got his PhD at the University of Chicago under Bradley Moore Davis for his 1899 thesis "The compound oosphere of Albugo bliti".
According to The Dictionary of Fungi, it is customary to assign each species of the genus Meliola "a 'Beeli formula' as revised by Stevens" in his series of articles "The Meliolineae"
