As you can see below, Atkinson is responsible for naming some of our most characteristic American fungal flora. He was also a researcher of great distinction, and edited (at one time or another) the Botanical Gazette, the Botanisches Centralblatt, the Centralblatt für Bacteriologie und Parasitenkunde, and The New Systematic Botany of North America.

I also have a citation for this in the journal Montreal Botanical Garden: Annuelles, with identical pages (issue 2). I suspect confusion caused by abbreviation is at fault
