Biography
For biographical details, see the web page devoted to him at UNC.
Couch's magnum opus is his big book on Septobasidium, which examines in great detail the ecosystem of the fungus and the scale insects which it protects and parasitizes. I hope to eventually get some of the wonderful pictures from this book on the website, but I don't think the copyright has expired yet and they're really huge.
The publications listed here that aren't on Septobasidium are on various of the Saprolegniales; apparently Coker's interest in them was contagious.
